Cheeky Monkey – Part 3

The weekend got away from me and my drawing time escaped but I did make a little progress in a few stolen moments.

Every time I draw I learn something new about the way my pencils react with each other.  I learn how to make textures and to make the images vibrant and alive.  I love this process, even though sometimes it fills me with fear.  This picture has been hard because it started so well, I did not want it to get away from me, to lose the character of this amazing animal.

As you know if you have followed my blog, I have no formal training, I have (I am told) a natural talent but this is dangerous as it is kind of like having super powers, if you can’t control them they go bad.  It is important to rein in what abilities you have and make sure that they work for you and not against you.  You cannot believe that natural ability is enough, it takes work….. hard work!

For me this work is challenging and exciting and fulfilling.  I appreciate the feedback and the support that I have had through this process and the challenges you have set me which has allowed me to come as far as I have…..

…….I am sure there is more to come.  🙂

Here is the latest stage of this drawing. (Scanned on a different scanner due to technical problems *&^%!)

I have still not chosen a name for him but will do that once he is complete.

Carla Boulton also sent me this link to an amazing animal (and portrait)  artist that she knows and I had to share it with you.  These images have a great feel to them, and I love the character that they capture.  I hope you enjoy them as much as I did.
